How to Rebuild the Entire Front Suspension in your Car or Truck

Publicerades den 12 apr 2019
Learn how to replace the ENTIRE front suspension of your car in this two episode series. First I will show you how to remove the wheel bearing, ball joints, control arms, tie rod, strut, and axle.
The ball joint and wheel bearing has to be pressed out of the knuckle and I have a bunch of tips and tricks to make that easy. The upper control arm ball joint and tie rod can get stuck in the knuckle so I show some tricks on how to easily remove that. The rest of the suspension parts are pretty simple to remove and replace.

  • Did you guys get notified by SE-tv that the video was posted? Also when you watched the video, was there a screen that said "this video was flagged by the SE-tv community and may be offensive" or something like that? Just wanted to check because I had issues last night which is why I had to postpone publishing the video. I hope it's all fixed and you guys learn a lot from the video! Stay tuned for the next video and then for a video that, well, covers a life changing event ;) Also for those asking why I am wondering, here is what happened last night when I went to publish: instagram.com/p/BwI-VOhFkt2/

  • What penetrating oil have you found to work best? Reviews are all over the place.

  • Has a cordless impact.... nice tools... but uses a hand saw lol.

  • They have a tie rod end remover that makes it much easier to remove the inner tie rod. I would suggest this method over the way ChrisFix does it.

  • Hey Chris, so when you paint the suspension areas are you using some special paint or is it just regular paint?

  • Hey Chris. I have 2011 Kia forte that won't start. I replaced the starter, battery but still won't turn on.its just one click and that's it. Can you point me in the right direction?

  • How many inches long is your breaker bar?or did you recommend any size ? Thank you

  • Where’s the Thursday video it’s almost Saturday?

  • If your in the market for looking for a older, I think it's worth it.

  • Hey Chris. Love you channel. I have a question. I have a 2012 Kia Optima. Sometimes when I shift gears (from park to reverse mostly), I feel the car jerk, then as I'm driving I can feel the car "hick up". Some people have told me that it's the motor or transmission mounts and the mechanic said I need a new transmission. What is your opinion? Also, how long before a transmission oil change?

  • excelente video, saludos desde Durango México

  • On FWD vehicles, do they also have a wheel hubs and bearings in the drum brake assembly?

  • Shouldn’t you plug the open transmission hole before spraying?

  • 5 years ago I replaced the whole suspension on my 00 Honda Accord. Unfortunately tranny blows up and left me on a side of the express way 🤦🏿‍♂️

  • Imagine a person doing this and not realising that the rebuild is in another video and having to live with the car with no suspension for a week.

  • Chris, did u have to replace the engine?

  • Next Thursday he says

  • I kind of want to exchange out my whole suspension now, even though I don't need to.

  • Well, Thursday's come and gone. Where's the new video? I'm clucking!

  • At least I know why my car steers bad

  • Come on man where is the next part you said next week i'll upload a new video your content is so amazing and educative keet it up man love you from tunisia❤

  • God Bless, always drive safely and be considerate. No tailgating because this is harrassment and terrorism. Happy Easter, Prost 🐇🐰🐣🐥🐤🕊🌷

  • can you please get camber

  • Okay it's been a week now and i need my car. i followed everything and now it's just standing there without front suspension. 😁

  • You're who I'm going to when I finally get a car and need to fix it.

  • I need to do this on my Saturn but It’s almost not worth it I could buy another Saturn for the same price

  • How do I throw Chris $5 or $10 as a way of giving back? These videos have amazing production quality, and there is a lot of work being done. Audio overdubs. Proper close ups. Proper lighting. Just damn perfect camera angles and lighting. Right when you think that close up will lose you, he cuts and re-positions the camera. It is this attention to detail that makes Chris the #1 auto DIY content, by far.

    • +Joe Lee You clearly don't know how SE-tv works. Average $1000 per million views. Might even be lower these days. You think making $2k for a video that took a two months to make is being a millionaire ?

    • I think he could be already a millionaire with 5 million subscribers. I think we subscribe his channel, and don't skip the ads. That would probably help him a little.

  • How to remove all that rust?

    • wirebrush will get rid of it, or if you have a dremel a wire brush attachment

  • When will part 2 be posted? It's past Thursday already.

  • Could you do a video on how to make a clutch pedal softer

    • My 1998 Eclipse gs has a very stiff clutch and I’m not sure on how to make it less stiff.

    • Softer?

  • 7:02 I aint know you was like that Chris. lol

  • Hey Chris, I'm curious why you didn't replace the knuckle when you bought new parts for everything else? Also just curious as to what was the total cost in parts?

    • They don’t make them anymore and there is no reason. It’s just steel and has no bushings or bends in it. Normally you don’t change a knuckle when doug suspension work unless it’s damaged. Good question.

  • Excellent video with lots of great tips. Not sure I'd be brave enough to tackle this job myself. I have an older car (1983) and I doubt all the suspension parts would be available new. Are there any upgrades that would be worthwhile when doing this, such as using polyurethane bushings instead of rubber?

    • You can use poly bushings but the ride will be a lot harsher so for a Street car it’s not always the best choice. Depends on your preference.

  • Watched the entire video just because it's lovely work ain't it?! I did that to my car last year, now i need to do the same to the rear suspension.

    • +ChrisFix , I changed one of the wheel bearings of the rear suspension, but the noise remains because the other side is also shot. Basically, being broke for a couple of years caught up and the bill was handed to me. All the stuff that I couldn't afford at the time, started to get replaced since 2017. Congrats Chris for the video, and for the sucess you have become, thanks for sharing the videos with us.

    • Haha the rear is next for me too

  • When's the nex vid?

    • Oh thank goodness. I was having withdrawal symptoms like everyone else here! I know what happened, even if no one else does. Life. What happens when you think you’re on track and have it all figured out.

    • Tomorrow morning

  • Hey Chris random comment but I brought my first car! $15000 I bought a Holden VR HSV Commodore, an Aussie car :D

  • Where is part two!? 😭

  • Hey chrisfix why does my truck backfire/jerk when accelerate btw i like your videos!

    • ChrisFix thanks man much love

    • Check the spark plugs, wires and distributor

  • I love ❤ you so much 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

  • Of course you had to pick the easiest damnn car in the planet to work on.

  • You are so patient. I would be going crazing if something didn't work right. I wish I had your patients and skill.
