We challenged chefs of three different levels - an amateur, a home cook and a professional chef - to make their versions of French toast. And then we brought in a food scientist to review their work. Which French toast was the best?

  • Between level 2 and level 3 there is a secret level, for those folks who make french toast at places like Cracker Barrel. Technically they are professionals, but they're not doing as good a job as Lorenzo

  • In every video I pretty much only relate to the 1st and 2nd chefs. The pro chef is always using really expensive ingredients or just difficult to make/obtain stuff.

  • I can’t understand why everyone is complaining the pro chefs being extra in every episode of this series. That’s what they are trained and paid for. Would you go to a restaurant for the same bolognese spaghetti you can make at home? Sure the 2nd level chef should appeal to most home cook because that what they are, but anyone with a tiny appreciation for food would know how good the ones made by professional chefs must be. Penny’s French toast look incredible and I could almost smell how fragrant and sexy all those orange zests are (orangey and chocolatey French toast sounds like a dream!!)

  • Sourdough bread, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, a touch of cardamon, butter and syrup, a little fruit for topping if you inclined, just make sure you cook it because soggy is the worst.
